Excellent product once set up correctly

This product needs careful and precise set up. Failure to understand or follow any of the instructions results in a drift of focus point over different depths of material. Some of the set up needs to be done from behind the drill. But, once it is set up properly it is incredibly accurate. Has speed up operations which need precision drilling no end. A great product.

Easy instalation. I adjusted the diameter of item to my press drill diameter 47mm using plastic tubes, so this Wixey can be aplicated to any press drill, not only the target design 60mm. pity I cant upload photo…

Great Idea

Easy to attach, set up and adjust. When set up, as per the very clear instruction leaflet, where the lines cross is where your drill goes in. Simply a great addition to my old drill press. Just remember that it is battery powered and switch it off when you are finished. Also if, like me, you are driven out of your 'man cave' in the winter, to take out the batteries.

Good for hobbyists, not so much for precision drilling

If a 1mm throw is acceptable I could recommend this. It's cheap, relatively easy to mount and does the job. It's easy enough to use and install, and will help in placing the work piece better under the drill bit. However if you need a higher accuracy this is not the device for you. The laser beam is way too wide to pinpoint the exact location within a mm. In most cases I've found it is good at the best up to +- 1mm. This also depends on the material, as some materials cause more distortion of the reflection and this will further decrease the accuracy. Another issue I have with it is the battery holder, which refuses to stay closed if the drill shakes a bit. Let's say you're drilling 40mm holes in steel tubing and the battery holder opens. This will possibly send you to a world of hurt when the batteries end up in front of the drill bit and burst to pieces. Third issue is the holder, which while easy to mount, is way too flimsy for any kind of accuracy. What you want is a system where you screw the device on the drill permanently so it can not move under any circumstance. To achieve this I made up a custom mount from steel and mounted the laser right into the drill housing. All in all it is an ok compromise between price and function, especially if you are willing to spend a little time improving it. However if you are considering buying a feeding table for your drill press you don't necessarily need the laser. Use a punch to locate the hole in the work-piece, mount it in the feeding table and precisely place it underneath the drill bit, hassle-free.
